Minnesota Paid Family Medical Leave Panel: Operational Lessons and Practical Strategies for Healthcare Providers
Minnesota’s Paid Family Medical Leave (PFML) Act is reshaping how healthcare providers manage leave, staffing, payroll, and employee communications. In this interactive panel discussion, healthcare leaders share firsthand experiences preparing for and implementing PFML requirements within provider organizations. Panelists will explore operational challenges, policy decisions and lessons learned so far in 2026.

Janet joined the practice in 2017 and brings with her nearly two decades of health care experience, including previous roles at both Allina Health and Blue Cross Blue Shield of MN. Since joining TCO, Janet has successfully led the development of new programs, sites, external partnerships, physician recruitment efforts, and most recently was the Vice President Clinic Services overseeing clinic operations in various regions of the practice. Her focus on practice growth and patient experience has helped elevate the TCO brand to what it is today. Janet’s knowledge of the healthcare market at a local, regional and national level positions her well to support TCO’s continued growth well into the future.

Melissa Bryan

Melissa brings a strong command of Minnesota Paid Family and Medical Leave (MN PFML) and advises employers on implementing, integrating and operationalizing the required plans, policies, and procedures. Her expertise includes navigating compliance requirements, as well as helping organizations anticipate, plan for and manage the complexities of concurrent time-off and leave policies and contingency capacity coverage. Before joining Growth Operators, Melissa served in senior HR leadership roles across multiple industries, including financial services, higher education, and
healthcare. Her background includes leadership roles at American Century Investments (Talent Acquisition Director), KCU (Human Resources Director), and Citi (Human Resources Director), as well as experience as an independent Senior Human Resources Consultant. Melissa holds a master’s in industrial relations from the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management and a bachelor’s in political science from the University of Minnesota. She brings a pragmatic, people-centered perspective to every engagement—helping employers build confidence, reduce risk, and move from compliance to capability.
