The Nuance Effect, A Little Math & A Lot of Human
Elevate your organization’s performance by applying strategic segmentation to your human capital strategy. Learn to identify your “Necessary Segment”—the critical team or department that drives disproportionate profitability and cash flow—instead of trying to be everything to everyone with limited resources. Discover how focused, human-centric strategies in understanding, adaptability, incentives, and consistency can lift your most impactful teams, accelerate financial results, and create a rising tide that strengthens the entire organization.

John Hutchinson | President, Hutchinson Enterprises
John Hutchinson co-founded CARE Counseling, a behavioral health organization, and grew it at roughly 70 percent per year for a decade, without outside capital, to more than 300 employees serving over 60,000 clients, before it was acquired by Optum, a subsidiary of UnitedHealth Group. Along the way, the company earned recognition from Inc. 5000, Fast 50, and Best Places to Work. In 2023, John was named a Health Care Hero by the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal for cultivating an environment where clinicians thrive, and clients receive exceptional care.
Today, John serves in board, advisory, and investment activities including Chairman of the Board for H2O for Life, a nonprofit focused on clean water and teaching children about the importance of philanthropy. He is also a Sr. Advisor for Ark Malibu, an investment bank focused on first time business sellers, a Venture Partner at Headwater Venture Capital, where he helps healthcare founders and portfolio companies navigate growth through organizational design, capital allocation, and operational strategy. John invests and serves in leadership roles within in a variety of healthcare and real estate enterprises including Ryzo Commercial Real Estate, Skywalker Structures, and Ubii. John shares thought leadership through his role as the host of “The Nuance Effect” podcast and as the author the upcoming Forbes book by the same name, which explores how seemingly small leadership strategies create outsized results.
